Spinal Cord Injury Care in California

The road to recovery following a spinal cord injury (SCI) can be a long and difficult journey. Along the way, patients are often faced with a number of significant challenges that impact their daily lives and overall well-being. Deciding where to go to receive care and complete the rehabilitation process for a SCI is the most important decision a patient will make. Choosing a spinal cord injury rehab facility that helps patients meet the challenges they face, while maintaining a high quality of life, can make all the difference in the world.

Sierra Care’s spinal cord injury rehabilitation program is unique and provides excellence of care in a home like setting. We combine a team of experienced caregivers with a state of the art facility, and provide an individualized, patient-centered rehabilitation program that prioritizes the patient, and their needs. The result is excellence in care that personalizes the patient specific needs in an environment conducive to comfort, positivity, and healing.

Our Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Process

Spinal cord injury rehabilitation at Sierra Care entails recognizing that each patient’s injury is unique, and therefore requires a unique treatment plan. We focus on delivering a comprehensive and thorough program that includes treatment from physicians, nurses, and therapists. We individually address the complex needs of each patient, and our facilities offer the most personalized care to meet their needs, including options for those requiring the use of ventilators, enteral nutrition and IV therapy. The result is an exceptional type of care that can only be found through our focused, personalized treatment options.

We make every effort to provide the earliest possible start time for our rehabilitation services when the patient is ready to advance from the acute care setting. Our focus is on maximizing patient strengths, abilities, and overall potential to restore their independence and allow them to return home as soon as they are ready. Through our intensive care planning, patients are able to improve functionality, and ultimately meet their individual objectives established at the beginning of the rehabilitation process.

Sierra Care’s goal-oriented approach is designed to stimulate, enable and encourage patients. By utilizing this process, patients are able to:

  • Improve physical function and mobility following an injury.
  • Develop the knowledge, skills, and, abilities necessary to perform daily activities.
  • Optimize their experience by taking advantage of new adaptive technologies that facilitate activities at home, work, and in social settings.
  • Identify and overcome any potential psychological or social problems that might interfere with acclimating to life post-rehabilitation or returning to a state of normalcy.

Spinal Cord Injury Patients

Sierra Care has experience in successfully treating spinal cord injuries. That experience gives patients peace of mind knowing they are receiving high quality care designed specifically for their needs. Sierra Care treats individuals with varying types of spinal cord injuries.

Examples of causes for these varying spinal cord injuries can include traumatic injury as the result of a motor vehicle accident, falling, physical violence, a sports-related accident, an act of medical malpractice, or an at work incident. Additionally, patients can develop a spinal cord injury as the result of a medical condition such as a tumor, infection, cervical stenosis, or another non-traumatic cause.

For patients with a dual diagnosis of spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury, our program emphasizes treating their physical/physiological and psychological/cognitive challenges individually and comprehensively. Our doctors will assess the patient’s unique condition and then offer an effective program that targets each individual symptom while ensuring that their overall, holistic objectives are considered and achieved.

Our facilities are also equipped to care for patients with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, motor neuron diseases, and conditions requiring ventilator management care including tracheostomy care, vacuum assisted closure (VAC) therapy, halo brace care, and more; all in a tranquil, home-like environment conducive to healing.
